Every homeowner dreams of having a big bay window in their home that spreads the natural sunlight throughout the whole room. These windows are built in three sections that protrude away from the wall and create an alcove that allows the light in from many directions.
If you have a bay window then you should try to dress it so that its beautiful design is accented and draws visitor’s attention to it. Normal windows are very easy to measure and hang drapes for but hanging drapes for bay windows is a bit more difficult.
First you need to take measurements of your bay window. You need to be sure to measure each section separately so that you have an accurate measurement. Then you can measure the height and width of the whole window. Write these dimensions down so that you don’t forget. If it helps you to visualize the window when you go shopping for drapes then you can draw a diagram of the bay window and put the measurements in the right place.
Now you can assess the décor in the rest of the room. You will not want the drapes for bay windows that you choose to clash with the rest of your style. If your room is more formal then you might want to get some drapes that are thick, high quality, and very elegant. If the room is more casual then something light and sheer will give you privacy but still look casual.
Thinking about the function of the drapes will also help this process. If you are getting drapes to block out light or provide insulation then sheer drapes will not work well. But if you want drapes that just make the room look nice, then your options are unlimited.
Once you know approximately what you want then go to a store that offers a wide variety of drapes for bay windows. If you are using one curtain rod then you will need to find drapes that will cover the width of the window.
If you are using separate curtain rods then you need to follow those measurements instead. They also should be the right length. The drapes should come below the bottom of the window but not drag along the floor.
